Why choose a pellet stove?
There are a number of considerations to be made in deciding if heating with pellets is the right solution for your home. Pellet heaters are a wonderful mix of modern technology and traditional “wood burning” appeal.
- Heating capacity: How large of a space would you like to heat? The unit should be sized to meet the expected demand
- Location: Pellet stoves, inserts and heaters all require a venting system to exhaust the combustion products to the outside. Because they use a blower to force the products up the vent, they are very flexible in what arrangement that can be. Generally those options are usually from the rear to an outside wall, up through the roof, or up an existing chimney.
- Accessible for cleaning: Pellet heating products have a number of routine steps for maintaining the machine and the vent. Adequate space around the unit allows easy access to perform those tasks.
- Power: Your heater will require a 120volt plug to power the mechanical components and controls.
- Controls: Pellet Stoves and fireplaces have a number of options for controlling the machine. From a simple push button start to fully bluetooth capable thermostats; take the time to look at the different machines and decide what best matches your personality.
- Loading the Pellets: The average weight of a bag of pellets is 40 lbs. A person should be comfortable lifting the bag and emptying the contents into the hopper (spot in the unit where the pellets sit).
- Economical
Cost saving is the main reason people look to installing a pellet stove. While oil and natural gas costs are increasing tremendously year over year, pellet fuel is very stable.
- Renewable & Sustainable
We have an abundance of renewable, sustainable trees in our province and the region. Pellet fuel is made of all natural sawdust. Sawdust that would previously have been a waste material, is now being used as a friendly source of heating fuel. The resin from the wood acts as the binding agent to keep the pellets together.
- Environmentally Friendly
Environmentally, pellet fuel is CO2 neutral, and has zero negative impact towards greenhouse gas. So, in effect, you can do your part globally, by acting locally and installing a clean-burning pellet stove.
