Why an Electric Fireplace?
One of the major considerations when picking a heating product for your home is what amount of heat are you looking to achieve. Of the different options available, Electric hearth products have a lower heat output compared to other options such as Gas or wood. Generally an owner is provided two options:
- Plugin units supplied with a 120 volt cord. On average they can provide upwards of 4900 btus
- Hardwire units to a 240 volt source. This can increase the Btu value to upwards of 9000 btus
Special considerations must be made when connecting a unit to 240 volts. An electrician will be required and a dedicated circuit from the homes breaker panel.
Electric fireplaces can add a wonderful ambiance to a space. They can provide finishing solutions that would be otherwise unavailable if fossil fuel units were not an option. Generally a home owner should consider them as an additional heat source for a home; not the primary heat source.
